The coroner expressed the opinion that McKee ended his own life. Relatives told police that he had been despondent because of financial difficulties. Economy and police believed McKee had been dead only a short time. McKee was last seen by his wife and two sons, Robert and Elmer, 19, when he left his home for work at 8 a. m. Thursday . When he failed to return home for dinner, Mrs. McKee requested police to search for him. McKee, who was employed as a salesman, came to Denver last August from Sargent, Nebraska . ABNER McKEE FUNERAL HELD WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON An article from a Denver paper telling of the death of Abner McKee was brought to this office Wednesday morning by his son Robert and will be found elsewhere on this page of the Leader. The body of Mr. McKee arrived in Sargent on the motor passenger train Monday forenoon, being accompanied by his wife Mrs. Edna McKee. The funeral was held at two o' clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church, Fay W. Spooner being the funeral director, Rev . C. M. Estabrook had charge of the services and preached the funeral sermon. The singing was by a mixed quartette composed of Bernard Brush, Mrs. Hazel (Bert) Amos, Miss Leah Estabrook, and Donald Olson with Mrs. Lora (John ) Lovojoy at the piano. The songs used were "Does Jesus Care," "God Will Take Care Of You", and "There'll Be No Dark Valley." The pall bearers were Floyd Pulliam, Bert Amos, Bryan Bunner, Burton Pulliam, Joe Dreller and Ben Griebel. Interment was made in the Sargent cemetery. Abner McKee, son of Mr. and Mrs. William McKee, was born on a farm about five miles northwest of Sargent, Nebraska, on February 5, 1894, and passed away at Denver, Colorado, April 2, 1937, at the age of 42 years, 1 month and 27 days. When he was just a boy his parents moved to Canada and he accompanied them. There they lived two and one half years and then returned to Sargent, Nebraska, and made their home in this city. Here on May 11, 1916, he was united in marriage to Miss Edna Young and for a year or two they resided on a farm belonging to her father Joe Young of this city. Then they moved to Sargent and for a number of years he was engaged in the dray business here. He also became mail messenger between the Sargent post office and the depot, a position he held for a long period of years. In recent years he spent one year in California, and while he was away his wife and sons performed the duties of mail messenger. Mr. and Mrs. McKee were the parents of two children, Elmer and Robert McKee. Elmer graduated from the Sargent High school with the class of 1935. Robert is still attending high school. Aside from the two and a half years in Canada and the year in California, all his life was spent in Sargent and vicinity until August, 1936, when he and his family moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked for the Tramway company. He left home for work last Thursday morning, April 1. When he did not return home for dinner in the evening a search was started for him He was found early Friday morning by his son Robert. He was sitting in the front seat of his car in a garage back of their home. The switch was turned on but the car was not running. Authorities say he had been dead but a short time. Mr. McKee leaves to mourn his very sudden death his wife and two sons, Elmer and Robert, his mother, Mrs. Wm McKee , four brothers, Fred, Claude and Floyd McKee of Sargent, and Nels of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; and two sisters Mrs. Lester Hall of Sargent, and Mrs. S. C. Hall of Omaha, Nebraska . He is also survived by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, three brothers and one sister.
