Darr, who spent most of his life in Carroll county, died at 12:30 yesterday afternoon in Mercy hospital, Council Bluffs, at the age of 97 years. He had been in good health until suffering a broken hip in a fall at the home of his grandson, Lee Farrell, at Lake Manawa Sunday, July 27. The body was brought last evening to the Huffman Funeral home, where services will be held. Rites are set for 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. Robert M. Peters, minister of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery. Mr. Darr was born March 11, 1850, in Linn county, Iowa, one of a family of seven children. He was married to Lorna Plumb September 9, 1872, in the county of his birth. In the spring of 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Darr came to Carroll county from Linn county. They located in Carroll after living on a farm five miles southeast of Lake City. After the death of his wife, which occurred in the spring of 1928, Mr. Darr lived with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. V.G. Farrell, most of the time. He had also stayed with his grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Farrell. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Farrell (Lillian) of Omaha; two sons, Winfield of Kansas City and Harry of Cloquet, Minn.; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one brother, Hugh V. Darr, who lives in Wisconsin. One daughter, Mrs. George Alspach (Myrtle) and two sons preceded Mr. Darr in death. Mr. Darr followed the carpenter trade during his long period of residence in Carroll. Relatives from away who will attend the rites, some of whom are here now, are Mr. and Mrs. V.G. Farrell of Omaha; Winfield Darr, Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. John Seeden and son, Jimmy, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Farrell, Lake Manawa; Mr. and Mrs. Dolbert Farrell, Jefferson; George Alspach and daughter; Mrs. Ted Clauser, Payette, Idaho.
