March 7, 1928 - Carroll Times - Mrs. A. L. Darr died at her home Sunday afternoon, March 4, at 12:30 o'clock after suffering a stroke of paralysis Monday evening, February 28, at 10 o'clock. She never rallied after being stricken and for several days was unconscious. The end came in a peaceful way, death wrapping her in a cloak of sleep. Mrs. Darr as Laura Plumb, was born at Berkshire, Ohio, July 28, 1849. In childhood her parents moved to Marion, Lynn county, Ia., where she grew to womanhood and was married in that city September 1872 to A.L. Darr. For the first ten years of their married life, they lived at Bertram, Ia., and moved to Carroll county in 1882, locating near Lake City. After a few years of residence at that place they established their home in this city. Mrs. Darr united with the Church of God in Carroll in 1904. She was much devoted to her home and found her chief delight in the welfare of her family. At the time she was stricken, she and her husband were preparing to break up housekeeping and intended making their home with their children. Besides her husband there are four children to mourn her death: Winfield A. Darr of Kansas City, Mo.; Harry E. Darr of Moose Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Myrtle Alspach of Payette, Idaho; Mrs. Lillian Farrell of Ord, Neb.; six grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers, besides many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Darr were the parents of seven children, three of whom died in infancy. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, March 6, at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Arthur M. Eastman officiating. Interment was made in the Carroll cemetery. Mrs. George Alspach of Payette, Idaho; W.A. Darr of Kansas City, and Mrs Glenn Farrell of Ord, Neb., hurried to their mother's bedside when she was stricken. Others who came because of her fatal illness were: Mrs. Harry Darr of Moose Lake, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Will Thompson of Lake City; and Mrs. Jennie Harwood of Des Moines, a sister of Mrs. Darr, Mrs. Harwood was summoned to Des Moinos shortly after reaching Carroll because of the death of her grandchild.
