Mitchell's Company C of the Seventh Regiment of Iowa Cavalry Volunteers, who was enrolled on the first day of January 1863, and mustered into the services of the United States as a Private on the 28th day of April 1863, at Davenport in Company C, 7th Regiment of Iowa Cavalry Volunteers, to serve three years or during the war; he was born in Jefferson Co in the State of Indiana; he was 44 years of age, 6 feet 1 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and by occupation when enrolled, a D D.; he died in Regimental Hospital at Davenport, Iowa on the 3rd day of June, 1863, by reason of Intermittent Fever. 1 Cap 1 Great Coat 1 Uniform jacket 1 Blouse 2 Pair trowsers 2 Flannel shirts 2 Blankets I certify on honor, that the above inventory comprises all the effects of Abraham Smock, deceased, and that the effects were taken by his wife who was present at the time of his death. He had been for several years "Moderator of this Association, and was much beloved by all who knew him." "He had given two sons to the service of his country, and although at that age of life when one clings with greater tenacity to home and the retirements of private life, he left his quiet retreat and the peaceful duties of the ministry, and entered the service," where "he died of disease in Camp McClellan, with the words of faith and triumph on his lips, trusting in the lord Jesus."
