Yohe, in this city at 12:30 o'clock, Tuesday, March 12th. The funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church on Thursday afternoon; conducted by Rev. A. E. Cameron, assisted by Dr. C. D. The text selected for the funeral sermon was chosen with strict propriety from Genesis 25:8: "Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people." The interment was in Elmwood cemetery. Abraham S. Yohe was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, June 6, 1827, and was, therefore, at the time of his death, 85 years, 9 months and six days old. The deceased learned the trade of carriage-builder and wagon-maker in his native state, and labored at this trade during the years of young manhood. And in later life he found real pleasure in testing his skill as a mechanic in various lines. In 1849 he was united in marriage to Glovinia Perry, near Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. Born to this union were seven children. One died in childhood, and six survive, three sons and three daughters, who mourn the loss of a devoted father. Mrs. Yohe preceded her husband in death by ten years. Mr. Yohe removed to Iowa in 1861. His first residence was in Des Moines County, near West Burlington, where he remained for nine months. In 1862 he removed to the homestead southwest of this city, where he continued to reside until recent years when he made his home with his son, J. C. E. Yohe, on the farm adjoining. Last November he came to town, and has since been making his home with his son, P. A. Yohe, where everything possible has been done to make his last days comfortable. His end was peaceful in the extreme. He had been gradually declining in health, and on last Tuesday the silver cord was finally loosed. In him we have a concrete illustration of God's promise to the righteous: "With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation." The testimony of all without reservation, is that our community has suffered the loss of an honorable citizen, and a good man, honest in all the complex relations of life. He was an exemplary Christian man. He rests from his labors, and his works follow him. He lives through his six children, his twenty-four grand-children and his ten great-grand-children.
