Read More	WALTON, ABRAHAM—Abraham Walton, American, student, craftsman, farmer, soldier, fearless, independent gentleman; was born in the village of Lancaster, Ind., on the last day of 1844. He was the third son of Isaiah and Eliza Jane (Hall) Walton. In his early boyhood his mother passed away and he had not that priceless association so important to children in America. When the Civil War broke out in this borderland, in southern Indiana, where party, sectional and factional, strife was keenest in the United State, found Abraham Walton in the mid-period of the war, a student at Lancaster Baptist college, where, although this institution long since ceased to be, and its records are not available, yet tradition informs us that he was an earnest student with a marked ambition for advancement along almost any of the avenues then opening for the educated man. He enlisted in the Eighty-second Indiana infantry, Company K, and was soon taken into the active fields of service in that critical period of that great civil strife. After being honorably discharged from military service, he followed the course of empire westward, and came to Iowa and took up his trade as carpenter. After that he farmed near Edgar and Fairfield in Clay county, Nebraska. He then journeyed to Kansas, spending several years on a ranch near Hoxie. From there he went to Colorado, where again he took up the carpenter and cabinet maker trade, at which he was adept. Later on he went to Kansas City and entered the hotel business and for twenty-five years was proprietor of the Reed and then the Dayton hotels. To him always home was a sacred shrine but he never established a family fireside of his own, his home enjoyment being made up in his care and concern for his brothers and sisters, and later for the multitude of nephews and nieces, all of whom he loved and frequently visited. He died at the soldiers and Sailors home at Milford, Neb., August 21, 1936. He left surviving one brother, Lucius Walton of Twin Falls, Idaho, and his nieces and nephews, and grand and great grand nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry with them as long as life will last the memory of that fine soldiery, manly bearing uncle. The body was brought to the B. F. Walton residence in Geneva, where it rested until Sunday afternoon. Grave side services were held at Geneva, Sunday afternoon. Hon. Charles H. Sloan of Geneva, by request of the deceased, delivering the funeral oration. Elmer Churchill's firing squad fired the salute, and Paul Curtiss sounded taps and the body was laid to rest in the Geneva cemetery. Wadlow's of Lincoln was in charge. The Nebraska Signal, 1936.
