Ann was born August 8, 1937 at Gallatin Gateway, Montana on the family farm to Gladys and Arlow Hancock. She was the fifth child, preceded by Jr. [Arlow], Dorothy, Floyd, and Larry; and younger brother Jack. Ann’s family history migrated from Medicine Hat, Montana to Gallatin Gateway. Ann was born August 8, 1937 at Gallatin Gateway, Montana on the family farm to Gladys and Arlow Hancock. She was the fifth child, preceded by Jr. [Arlow], Dorothy, Floyd, and Larry; and younger brother Jack. Ann’s family history migrated from Medicine Hat, Montana to Gallatin Gateway. They then settled in the Bitterroot. There she grew up working on the family farm with her siblings raising livestock and poultry. Family gatherings were greatly enjoyed; board games, cards, and Yahtzee with “Pop”. Ice skating and baseball games were favorite activities. The Hancock family was very diversified in agriculture and sharecropping in the Bitterroot and Gallatin valleys, in western Montana. Ann graduated Anaconda High School in 1955. She met the only man she would ever marry, Gale Walter Leach. They shared their early life on the Arrow Creek Bench, north of Coffee Creek on the Leach family property; moving their family to Stanford, in the early 1970’s. Ann shared her husband’s passion for racehorses and they followed the state racing circuit, where he functioned for several stables as their trainer. Their love of horses carried on throughout their life. Ann had a passion for garage sales and shopping. As the family matriarch she reached out at birthdays, holidays and gave generously to many causes. Ann worked at many different jobs in her life, including banking. She enjoyed her early experiences working at the Federal Reserve in Helena. Her professional career, for 25 years, before retirement she proudly served in the office of Clerk of Court for Judith Basin County. She continued to serve her community as Mayor of Stanford, including water and sewer improvement projects. Ann volunteered many hours as a Den Mother for Boy Scouts in Stanford for nearly a decade. Maintaining independence in her widowed life, Ann continued to enjoy her many horses, remodel her house, and visit with her good friends at the grocery store and post office. A beloved, lifelong friend, Gale’s sister, Joan VanKuiken, held a special place in her heart. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Gale; parents; and siblings: Jr., Dorothy, and Floyd.
