The Tipton Advertiser, June, 1930 Obituary. Mrs. Ada L. Miller The funeral service of Mrs. A. L. Miller, whose body was brought from Yuma, Arizona, to Tipton, Iowa, was held at the home of Mrs. M. F. Bunker in Tipton Thursday, June 12, and her body was laid to rest in the Masonic cemetery. Rev. J. B. Ackman, the officiating minister, read the following memoir in honor of Mrs. Miller: Mother Ada L. Miller, the daughter of Moses and Sarah Bunker, was born northeast of Tipton, on September 26, 1848, in Cedar county, Iowa. In this vicinity she grew to womanhood. In 1867 she was united in marriage to John McCroskey. they started homebuilding on a farm southeast of Tipton, where they had their home for many years. Her husband preceded her in death in Sept. 1890. In ? she was united in marriage with Silas Miller. They had their home in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Mr. Miller passed away about 15 years ago. The whole journey of life of Mrs. Miller was spent in Iowa, with the exception of four years, when she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Orrie Stoddard, in Everett, Washington; and the last fourteen months with her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Ingham, of Yuma, Arizona, where she passed away June 7th, 1930. Mother Miller was a person who was fashioned in the good old-fashioned way, willing to help everybody, and made her home a place of welcome for youth and old age alike. Thus she built up a comradeship and a companionship which is beautiful and sacred. And when a soul of this kind takes its flight, the home the church and the community lose heavily, but the fragrance of a noble life remains. She leaves to mourn her departure her children; Walter McCroskey of Archer, Iowa; Mrs. Blanche Ingham of Yuma, Arizona; Mrs. Amy Nye of Primghar, Iowa; and Mrs. Orrie Stoddard of Everett, Washington; as well as one sister, Mrs. Mary Hunter of Salinas, California; and fourteen grandchildren, one grandchild, Vera McCroskey Saupe, having preceded her in death; also nine great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
