"Mrs Frank Himebaugh,84, near Hermosa, who had lived in this section of the Black Hills for more than 60 years, died in a local hosptial Saturday morning after a short illness. Services will be held in the Keystone Congregational Church Sunday at 2 pm, with the Rev John Staton, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist church officiating. Burial will be in the Keystone cemetery under the direction of Behren's Mortuary in Rapid City. Mrs Himebaugh,(Lou A Gaylord) was born Oct 13, 1856 at Nufane NY. When she was seven years old her parents moved to Lansing MI.(Our Yestedays County history says where Lansing would be)She was married to Frank Himebaugh in 1877 and they moved to the Black Hills in 1880 settling near Box Elder. They later She taught elementary schools of this area for many years. Surviving are her husband, a son Robert in Keystone, a daughter, Alma Carter of Hermosa, six grandchildren and 12 great grand children. One daughter, Bessie Lydnoe died in 1917. Below is also from "Our Yesterdays" After they were married Frank worked in Northern Michigan lumber camps but his health failed and he had to do something else. They both went to Ann Arbor Seminary, Frank majored in music. The idea of coming west was encouraged by Frank's Uncle Frank, who gave them four cows that they trained to pull a wagon in place of oxen. They gave milk and the caves followed behind. And so it was wagon heavy with equipment for farming and their household furniture and cooking utensils, they proceeded, making pretty good time. Frank G had read the advertizement before leaving the States "Go West Young Man", and go west he did. They reached the land where Ellsworth is now on July 8,1880 and Frank filed on it. The lived in a dug out the first year and finished the log cabin the second year. Alma was born , and there was a terrible blizzard the left snow on the ground until May. The sold every thing the next year and moved to Iowa and stayed for four years and when they came back to the land it has been "jumped". He filed on tree claim near Box Elder and later homesteaded five miles beyond. There a second daughter Carrie Bessie was born.
