Mr August Fuchs received yesterday the sad news of the death of his father, Mr Adam Fuchs, at Adelaide, while on his return journey to Maryborough from Germany. The deceased, who was in his 79th year, left some months ago on a trip to his native land to see his relations, and it will be a matter of deep regret throughout the community that this fine old townsman and pioneer will not return amongst us. He came to Maryborough in 1863, and taking up an area of the rich land in the "Pocket", had most successfully farmed there ever since. He leaves a grown-up family of four sons and six daughters, all married, and mostly living in and around Maryborough; and through them 49 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The body will be embalmed and brought to Maryborough for burial, beside the body of his wife, who died about 12 months ago. ...[Maryborough Chronicle dated Friday, September 18. 1908] The body of the late Mr Adam Fuchs, who died in Adelaide on his return trip from the old country, will reach Maryborough by mail train this morning, and be conveyed to his old home in the "Pocket". Death Notice - Maryborough Chronicle - Tuesday, September 29, 1908: FUCHS - On September 17th, 1908, at the Earl of Zetland Hotel, Adelaide, Adam Fuchs, aged 78 years. The remains of the late Mr Adam Fuchs, of "The Pocket", who died in Adelaide on 17th September, 1908, were brought to Maryborough by mail train yesterday morning, and on arrival at Maryborough were conveyed by Mr J. Ammenhauser to deceased's late residence. The body was embalmed at Adelaide by R. T. Wallmann and Sons. The coffin is of English oak, mounted in silver and bluch. We have been asked to state that on being opened, the body was found to be in a perfect state of preservation, reflecting very creditably on the work of the embalmers. Any friends wishing to see the remains of the deceased, may do so up to 2 o'clock this afternoon. The funeral starts at 3 p.m. Funeral Notice: The friends of Wilhelm, Heinrich, August and Carl Fuchs, and Mesdames F. Fein (Brisbane), Pommeraing, Myers, Rosendahl, Zahn and Jabbs, are kindly invited to attend the Funeral of their beloved father (Adam Fuchs), to move from his late residence, "The Pocket", Alice Street, this (Tuesday) afternoon, at 3 o'clock for the Maryborough Cemetery. Probate has been granted in the will of Adam Fuchs, late of Maryborough, farmer, who died on the 17th September, 1908, to Wilhelm Fuchs, of the Island, Maryborough, (son of deceased), the sole executor.
