Note: At the time of his death Adam was living at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and William Waltz at Yough Glades. Yough Glades became Oakland in 1854.) Records of the German Reformed Church, Federick, Maryland (now the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ), Frederick County, Maryland document the following: Adam Hausser: Confirmed on April 6, 1787, age 19. Adam Hausser Married Sibylla Jantz on June 12, 1791, the Rev. William Runkel officiating; witnesses: Geroge Hoffmand and Michael Braun. (Note: German Reform Church and Cemetery records were written in German, with the German surname Hausser "Anglicized" as Hauser; Jantz as Yantz. Elsewhere in the records the name is spelled Hauser, the most common spelling of the name. Although many Hausser/Hauser descendants have anglicized the spelling to Houser, Howser, or Hoosier. Adam and Sivilla used the Anglicized names of Hauser and Yantz in all official documents, e.g., land records, as did their children, with the exception of Geroge Yantz who later in life used Howser rather than Hauser.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Married Sivilla Yantz on 12June 1791 at the German Reformed Church, Frederick Town, Maryland. Of this union 11 children: (1) Maria - 1792-1793; (2) Ezra - 1795-1873; (3) William - 1797 - 1820; (4) Henry Yantz - 1799-1843; (5) David - 1801-1873; (6) Catherine - 1803-1875; (7) Mary - 1805-1891; (8) George Yantz - 1808-1856; (9) John Michael - 1811-1834; (10) Peggy Waltz - 1814-1815; and (11) Levi Hopkins, 1814-1840. (Note: Peggy Waltz Hauser and Levi Hopkins Hauser were twins). _______________________________________________________________________ NOTE: There is no conclusive evidence to confirm that Adam Hauser's given name was William or his father was William Erick House (1741-1816) and mother was Ann Noah House (1742-1820), as recorded on certain Hauser family trees. In reviewing family trees posted for William Adam Hauser (Houser), it appears that the initial contributor did not fully explore such source documents as church, census, tax, land, and other records, including area history, to confirm Adam Hauser's pedigree and may have conflated William Adam House with Adam Hauser without a critical examination and verification of the facts and legends surrounding this Hauser family. I, along with other Hauser researchers and descendants, have done extensive research of Adam and Sivilla and thier descendants, and have yet to confirm Adam's parents. All we have to go on are church records that give his confirmation at age 19 and date of birth as 18 October 1768. We know from census, land, and church records that Adam and Sivilla moved from Frederick to Hagerstown and in 1796 continued west to Allegany County where he purchased land in the Wills Creek area, near Cumberland. 1796 Maryland land records for Allegany County show Adam as being from "Frederick County, Maryland" and Allegany County land records from 1805 and beyond describe him as being "of Allegany County." The last known property he owned was in the western part of Allegany County at Yough Glades and was living in the household of his daughter Mary and her husband William Waltz at Yough Glades when he died in 1851. It is important to note that in 1854 Yough Glades in Allegany County became known as Oakland. In 1872 that portion of Allegany County became part of Garrett County when the new county was formed in 1872. Finally, we do not know the exact location of Adam and Sivilla's burial. A Bible entry by Adam's daughter noted that he was "buried at Yough Glades on September 7, 1851." One could speculate that he was buried in a cemetery in Yough Glade area or even on the property they owned. Some speculate that he and Sivilla may be buried at the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery at Red House, Maryland because his son Ezra Hauser and many other Hausers are buried there. In 1990, I reveiwed St. John's record of deaths and burials, caretaker records, and old death and burial records kept by Kenneth Ridder at that time. None of those records showed or proved that Adam and Sivilla are buried at St. John's cemetery. In order to maintain consistency with Adam's and Sivilla's pedigrees and to facilitate further research, I have chosen to place their burial in the Oakland Cemetery until if and when the exact location of their burial can be verified. For the same reasons, I have also placed the Oakland Cemetery as the burial site for several of their children where no record of burial is recorded. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
