July 19, 1895 - Carroll Sentinel - Adam Schleismann died at his home in the third ward Sunday evening at 10:15. For several months the deceased has been a patient sufferer from cancer of the stomach. Medical aid has done all it could to baffle the ravages of this frightful disease. For some weeks the patient has been conscious of the fact that death was but a question of a short time and quietly awaited the end. The funeral was held at Ss. Peter and Paul's church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock. Mr. Schleismann moved to Carroll county over twenty years ago and located in Sheridan township, where he made his home until last March. He was then suffering from the disease which caused his death and moved here for treatment. He leaves a wife and five sons to mourn his loss. Thu funeral of Adam Schliesman was held Wednesday and was largely attended. His former neighbors in Sheridan township were nearly all present. The funeral procession was formed at the home and extended to Ss. Peter & Paul's church. Not less than seventy five carriages were in line. Rev. Father Nacke conducted the ceremonies. The remains were laid to rest in Ss. Peter & Paul's cemetery. The deceased was born in Germany Aug. 10, 1831, and moved to America in 1866 and settled in western Illinois where he resided until 1878, when he moved to Carroll county and settled in Sheridan township and remained there until last spring, when he moved to the city. He was married to Miss Katie Kramer in Germany who survives him. Eleven sons were born to this union, five of whom are now living. There are also eight grandchildren. Last Christmas Mr. Schliesman was taken sick with the disease which resulted in death. He gradually wasted away. The deceased during his long years of residence in this county accumulated quite a fortune, he was a hard worker and thought of little else than the accumulation of property. He often exposed himself and this in a measure was one of the causes of his death. The family have the sympathy of their many friends in their loss.
