Jan 27, 1915 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Catherine Schleisman passed away at the home of her son, Philip, in Sheridan township, Monday morning at 2:30 after being confined to her bed for nine months with dropsy and the infirmaties of old age. Mrs. Schleisman, whose maiden name was Miss Catherine Kramer was born in Under Loudenbach in Baden on Barg Street, Germany, on the 19th of January, 1831. She was united in marriage to Adam Schleisman in 1855 and they made their home in Husendarmstead until 1866 when they emigrated to America. Their first home in the United States was in Rock Island county, Illinois, where they lived until 1872 when they moved to Iowa and settled in Sheridan township, this county, where they made their home for about 20 years. Deciding to retire from the farm they moved to Carroll but Mr. Schleisman died four months later and Mrs. Schleisman disliking to give up her home continued to live here until about a year ago when on account of poor health she went to make her home with her son, Philip. Eleven children, all sons, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Schleisman, three of these died in infancy in Germany and three died in America. Mike died at the age of 17, Rudolph at 14, and Henry at 12. The surviving sons are Philip, Adam, Jacob, John and Theodore. All of who reside in Sheridan township. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. With the exception of Leo, who is in the United States navy at Vera Cruz, all of these are living in Carroll county.
