Description	:	In May 1861, Elihu B. and Elizabeth Shaw Plumb traveled from Sauk County, Wisconsin by oxen and prairie schooner with their nine-year old son, Leroy, two-year old daughter Addie Estelle and 12 year-old foster daughter Cordelia E. Ricker. They arrived at Plumb Station, S.E. Olympia, Washington in December 1861. Elihu and his family traveled the Oregon Trail until they heard about an Indian uprising, then they headed north from Landers cut-off in Wyoming. Ricker. They arrived at Plumb Station, S.E. Olympia, Washington in December 1861. Elihu and his family traveled the Oregon Trail until they heard about an Indian uprising, then they headed north from Landers cut-off in Wyoming. They continued north into Montana and over the Mullen Trail. They were the first pioneer train to come over Lieutenants Mullen's Military Road and met Lt. Mullen on their journey. One night they camped with 70 Bannock Indians. They tried to borrow ammunition from the train but some Frenchmen from Deer Lodge who had joined the train told them not to give it to them. The Indians wanted to kill them because they were afraid the people would settle on their lands. The Indians stole some oxen and other things from the train that night but molested them no more. Elihu became the Postmaster at Plumb Station when it was established in 1879. Addie worked as a teacher on the Puyallup Indian Reservation, Washington Territory where she met Dr. James Vercoe. She and James married in 1883 and they had four children: William Henry, Charlotte, James Edward, Thomas. She was an active worker for the Womens' Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) and Salvation Army in Skagit County; she made rugs on a loom and loved to garden.
