Read More	Miss Addie Winchester died this morning at ten o'clock as a result of the burns she received on the night of December 16th while preparing to retire at her boarding place at Squire J. W. Since the accident, an account of which appeared in The Journal at the time, Miss Winchester has been at the home of Mr. Helms and a trained nurse has been in attendance upon her. Her burns were not expected to prove fatal. Last night her brother, Mr. Charley Winchester sat up with her and the nurse was also in attendance. This morning she became worse and died as stated. The remains will probably be carried to the home of her father, Esq. J. H. Winchester, tomorrow morning, and the funeral held at Wesley Chapel. The death of the unfortunate young lady is indeed a sad one. She was about twenty-one years of age, and was in every way a noble young woman with a promise of life full of usefulness. She leaves her father and mother, several brothers and sisters, and scores of neighbors and friends to whom she was very near. The Monroe Journal Monroe, NC Tuesday, December 29, 1914 Page 5 ---------- Tribute to Miss Winchester Correspondence of The Journal On last Wednesday, December 30, 1914, at 11 a.m., a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends of Miss Addie Mae Winchester gathered at her earthly home to pay the last tribute of love and esteem to her mortal remains. There were so many present that the handsome casket covered with the beautiful floral offerings with its precious inmate was placed on the porch so that the people could stand in the yard and hear the services that were conducted by her pastor, Rev. Mr. Taylor, who told of her life, true to her church and to any duty the devolved upon her. He said she was always found at her post of duty and rendered any helpful service she could. It was her daily habit to read her bible, as testified by her father. She told those around her when she was on her bed of suffering that she was prepared to leave this world at any time. May this be the experience of any who may read these lines. She had been a member of the M. E. church at Wesley Chapel for 12 years. She graduated from Wesley Chapel High School April 29th, 1912, and taught that fall, and each winter since in Union county public schools and was teaching at the time of the sad accident took place which was the cause of her demise. One of the most touching scenes in connection with her funeral was the large number of her pupils manifesting their grief at her departure. She was 21 years, 7 months and 21 days old. She had every attention that loving interested relatives and friends could administer. Among those who did so much for her, we desire to mention the untiring devotion of her mother and her brother Charlie. Her father being so feeble he was not able to go so far from home and care for her, so it devolved largely on her brother Charles to care for her very faithfully. Mr. John Helms and family also did all they could for her, but all medical attention, and that of nurses and anyone could do did not avail. She had to leave us all, Beyond the flight of time, Beyond this vale of death, There surely is some blessed clime, Where life is not a breath. There is a world above, Where parting is unknown; A whole eternity of love, Formed for the good alone.
