O'Brien-McElroy. Relatives and a few intimate friends of the contracting parties gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.T. McElroy last evening to witness the marriage of their daughter, Miss Adele, to Mr. J. M. O'Brien. The rooms were festooned with smilax and ferns and bright carnations and beautiful roses were on every hand. The ceremony was performed at 8 o'clock by Rev. L. S. Jones of the M. E. church. When the hour arrived the bride and groom and their attendants, Miss Grace O'Brien and Chas. O'Brien, proceeded to the parlor, while the wedding march was being played by the bride's sister, Mrs. J. B. House, of Wichita. They took their positions in a corner of the room which was very tastefully festooned with draperies and smilax. The ring ceremony was used, the golden band being borne upon a large calla lily by Miss McElroy's niece, little Adele House. The bride was attired in a magnificent gown of white crepe de chene over white taffeta, and carried white roses. Miss O'Brien wore a beautiful costume of pink silk mull and carried cream roses. After the mystic words which united the hearts and fortunes of the two young people had been spoken, heartv congratulations were extended and best wishes showered upon them. An elaborate wedding luncheon was served. At the conclusion of the marriage ceremony the bride threw a rose into the air, and, according to tradition, if it was caught by an unmarried person, that one would be married within a year, It fell into the outstretched hand of Fred Speakman, who by the way, is Mr. O'Brien's right hand man at his place of business. A number of handsome presents consisting largely of' silverware, china and table linen, were received by Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien, and Mr. O'Brien's wedding gift to his bride was a fine piano. The Raffia Club, of which Mrs. O'Brien is a member, remembered them with a large basket, to which were attached the cards of the club members, giving their club names in the Indian language. An appropriate verse accompanied the gift. Mr. O'Brien had rented and nicely furnished the Bragg cottage vacated by Rev. McQuesten, and at a late hour he and his bride wended their way thither. Their friends showered them with a copious shower of rice as they left the house and bid them God speed. On arriving at their new home they found that "loving hands" had been at work and had filled the house with hearts of all sizes and descriptions, from very small ones made into festoone to large ones bearing inscriptions such as "I left my happy home for you," "Just because you made them goo-goo eyes," "Home, sweet home," "When the swallows homeward fly," etc. Fearing that there might be something lacking in the way of edibles, a bucketful of rice had been placed above the door and as the happy couple entered the house they were reminded of its presence by the contents coming down upon their heads. Some more "loving hands" had set three alarm clocks to go off at different times in the night. Old shoes were also quite prominent among the "decorations." Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien were born in Humboldt and have lived here all their lives. Their friends are numbered by the hundreds and they have the best wishes of them all. Mr. O'Brien is proprietor of a grocery store and meat market, and has by thrift and business sagacity built up a splendid trade. Mrs. O'Brien is a charming and talented young woman, and is well fitted for the duties of a loving housewife. May they live long to enjoy each other's happiness.
