The family lived on the Lincoln Ranch and in Ordway, S.D., before moving to Cresbard, S.D., where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated from Aberdeen Business College and worked in Aberdeen as a stenographer and bookkeeper. Adelma Virginia Roberts was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Robert Owen and Helen (Hall) Roberts. The family lived on the Lincoln Ranch and in Ordway, S.D., before moving to Cresbard, S.D., where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated from Aberdeen Business College and worked in Aberdeen as a stenographer and bookkeeper. She worked in an Army Airforce Depot in Spokane, Wash., before moving to Miami, Fla., where she married Loren John (Bud) Boekelheide on March 25, 1944. During the war they lived in Miami, Fla., Hutchinson, Kan., Oakland and San Diego, Calif. Following the war, they moved to Aberdeen. In 1947, they moved to Ellendale, N.D., where Bud and his father were owner-operators of the Ellendale Grain and Seed. In the mid-1960s she became manager of the University of North Dakota-Ellendale Branch bookstore, a position she held until the school closed. Virginia was a member of the Presbyterian United Methodist Church where she was active in her church circle, sang in the adult choir and organized and directed the first Junior Choir. She served on the Ellendale Park Board and was a past president of P.E.O. Chapter I. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, dancing, and reading. Her greatest joy was family, and her family will miss her constant caring ways, not to mention her delicious pies. She is survived by two sons: John (Karen) Boekelheide, Simpsonville, S.C., and Gary (Vicki) Boekelheide, Warroad, Minn.; one daughter: Jane (Tom) Ahlin, Fargo, N.D.; two sisters: Beverly Price, Madison, S.D., and Charlean (Ralph) Kittelson, Holiday Island, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers. Memorial service: Presbyterian United Methodist Church with Pastor Joseph Manja officiating. Burial: Ellendale City Cemetery. Arrangements by Hoven Funeral Chapel, Ellendale. Published in the Aberdeen News on 3/19/2007.
