Read More	Ellendale, N.D. - Loren John "Bud" Boekelheide, 85, Ellendale, N.D., died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, in his home. Bud was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Northville, S.D., to J.H. and Gertrude (Busch) Boekelheide. He grew up in Chelsea, S.D., and graduated from Cresbard High School. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1941 and entered the Navy. After training in Corpus Christie, Texas, he served during WW II as a Naval Aviator. He remained enthusiastic about flying throughout his life. Bud married Virginia Roberts on March 25, 1944, in Miami, Fla. During the war years, they lived in Miami, Hutchinson, Kan., Oakland, Calif., and San Diego, Calif. Following the war, they moved to Aberdeen, S.D., where Bud worked as a bookkeeper. In 1947, Bud and Virginia moved to Ellendale, N.D., where he and his father became owner-operators of the Ellendale Grain and Seed. Bud retired after selling the business with his then-partner, Lowell Hamar, in the mid 1980s. Bud was active in the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed the Boy Scouts and in his years as a Scoutmaster, he accompanied troops to Camp Wilderness. He served as a city alderman and as an Ellendale, N.D., College Foundation Board Member. Bud was a great family man who enjoyed camping trips with his children and grandchildren to the Boundary Waters, the Montana wilderness, the Badlands, the Black Hills, and even Weber's Gulch and Winship farm. During his retirement years, he enjoyed farming, golfing, card playing, and traveling. His family will miss his dancing, singing, and wonderful letters. Bud is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Ellendale, N.D.; two sons, John (Karen) Boekelheide, Simpsonville, S.C., and Gary (Vicki) Boekelheide, Warroad, Minn.; daughter, Jane (Tom) Ahlin, Fargo, N.D.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leone VanMatre, Mexico, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents. The memorial service is Wednesday at Presbyterian United Methodist Church, Ellendale, with Pastor Joseph Manja officiating.
