Adolph Woltmann Pioneer Farmer Died Adolph Laurence Woltmann was born August 14, 1869, in Hanover, Germany, and he passed away Saturday morning, July 27, 1940. He had reached the age of 70 years, 11 months and 13 days. He was baptized as a child and spent his early years in Germany. Adolph Woltmann Pioneer Farmer Died Adolph Laurence Woltmann was born August 14, 1869, in Hanover, Germany, and he passed away Saturday morning, July 27, 1940. He had reached the age of 70 years, 11 months and 13 days. He was baptized as a child and spent his early years in Germany. In 1880 the family came to the United States and settled in Scott County, Iowa. Three years later they moved to Shelby County, locating north of Harlan. In 1893 Mr. Woltmann was united in marriage to Emma Schneckloth of Harlan. to this union were born 11 children, all of which are living except one daughter, Helen, who passed away in February, 1926. After a brief stay in Harlan, the couple moved to a farm and engaged in that occupation since. They purchased their present farm home in 1915 and moved onto it in 1919. In 1923 he was injured in an auto accident from which he never recovered, leaving him a cripple. Mr. Woltmann had been a supporter of the German Lutheran church of Shelby, and he became a charter member of the present United Lutheran Congregation when it was organized in 1925. He is survived by his wife; five sons, Ernest and Harry of Avoca, Adolph, Herman and Clarence of Shelby; five daughters, Mrs. Walter Schroder of Lewis, Iowa, Mrs. Henry Hansen of Shelby, Mrs. Wm. Ronnfeldt of Hancock, and Mabel and Edna at home. Two brothers, Henry of Pierce, Nebraska, and Peter of Corley and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Hansen of Corley, and Mrs. Reca Grage of Manilla. A short prayer service was held at his farm home at 1:30 p.m. and funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the United Lutheran church in Shelby with Rev. Tange officiating. Burial was in Shelby cemetery.
