He was born Feb. 5, 1927, in Beemer to Adolph Heinrich Wilhelm Raasch Sr. and Alma (Hass) Raasch. He attended Beemer High School.In his youth the family resided near the present day Beemer Cemetery on the grounds of the old Beemer Brick Factory, once owned by Adolph's grandfather, John Christian Frederich Raasch Jr. Family members raised their own meat, had a small dairy business and grew their own vegetables. The family relocated for a brief time to Oakland, Calif., where he attended Technical Trade School and worked in the Oakland shipyards building ships. In 1945, he was inducted into the U.S. Army while in California. He served for two years and was stationed overseas in Austria during World War II. He returned to Beemer and married Beverly A. Brown on Nov. 18, 1951. The family resided in Beemer, where he was a carpenter and built many projects in the community. For the last 21 years, he had resided and worked with his son, Dolph, and his family in Vista. He was a member of the Beemer post of the American Legion and a member of the Beemer Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include: his wife; his children, Dolph Raasch and Dana Raasch, both of Vista, Denise Aschoff of Randolph and Drew Raasch of Aurora, Ill.; four brothers, Lyle Raasch of Kearney, Dallas Raasch of Columbus, Dean Raasch of Phoenix and Terry Raasch of Beemer; two sisters, Orphia Ackerman of Beemer and Elgene Brown of Sutton; and eight grandchildren.He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer with the Rev. Duane Behnken officiating.
