Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Minkler of Estherville were among those attending the last rites. Adria Louella Newton was born July 31, 1857, at Washington, Iowa, and at the time of her death on Feb. 14, 1938, was 80 years, 4 months and 14 days of age. Her mother dying when she was 12 years of age, the family became separated and she made her home with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David McConnaughey of Washington, Iowa, until her marriage on Jan. 8, 1874, to Alexander Blair Lindsey. To their union was born one child, Abigail, wife of A.H. Kelch of Lake View, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey resided on farms in Washington, Ringgold and Audubon counties for about 7 years moving then to Okbo, Nebr. Several years later the family moved by covered wagon to a homestead in western Kansas, arriving in a late spring blizzard. Here, in the buffalo sod shanty which served them as a home and around which droves of antelope and wild horses and cattle roamed, Mrs. Lindsey started a Methodist Sunday School, later organizing another six miles south of her home. The two religious groups were the nucleus for the Methodist church afterwards organized at Brewster, Kansas. With that spirit of helpfulness which was an outstanding characteristic, she ministered to the sick and needy, making her trips to their homes on her pony. The windows of her home set in the thick sod of the walls, were bright with flowers, symbolic of that cheerfulness and fortitude with which she endured the hardships of those pioneer days. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary while living in Fall River, Kansas, where they later moved and where they resided until 1924, when they came to Lake View to spend their sunset years near their daughter. Besides the daughter, Mrs. Lindsey is survived by four grandchildren - Adria, wife of Raymond Minkler of Estherville, Winifred of Chicago, Pauline, wife of Robert Ruegnitz of Dubuque, and Alfred a student at Ames, and by one great grandchild, Richard Kimball of Estherville. Other surviving relatives are a brother, George E. Newton of Granite, Okla., and a sister, wife of R.L. Badger of Washington, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. Emily Smith of Los Angeles, Calif., preceded her in death four years ago. Her husband to whom she had been a faithful companion for 63 years passed away August 24, 1937. She was a devoted Christian since young womanhood. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church during her life in Kansas, and since coming to Lake View nearly fourteen years ago, was affiliated with the Congregational church. She continued in active service as long as her health permitted. Her cheerful, friendly disposition won her many friends who deeply regret her passing. The Lake View Resort - 2/24/1938
