Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Vining, IA. Memorials may be made to the family. Agnes was born April 21, 1919 to Charles and Mary (Dostal) Nekola on the family farm in Toledo, IA. After attending Clutier High School, she worked on the family farm and Murty’s Station, Toledo. Agnes married Milo Kalina November 28, 1939 at Immaculate Conception Church, Clutier. Together they raised six children on their family farm near Elberon, where Agnes lived for 77 years. Along with being a wonderful mother, housewife and gardener, Agnes was a great cook especially known for her noodles and world famous caramel rolls. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, and making crafts. She made everyone around her feel special by sending cards; whether a birthday, holiday or just because. Agnes was a very religious person and active in her faith as a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, Catholic Workman KD Lodge #149, Rosary Society of Vining, CCD teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Vining and a member of Elberon Homemakers. She will always be remembered as being a very generous person and gracious host. Agnes is survived by her sons, Ronald (Cheryl) Kalina of Freeport IL, Larry (Betty) Kalina of Potosi, WI, Robert (Sandi) Kalina of Mt. Carroll, IL and Daniel Kalina of Elberon; daughters, Charlene (Kevin) Willaby of Toledo and Nancy (Gene) Garling of Williamsburg; sister, Pauline Dvorak of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milo on March 5, 2004 and brother, Milo Nekola.
