Rev. Aloysius Jarzemski officiated at the services. Agnes Jehorek was born in Poland to Mary and Martin Jehorek on Oct. 29, 1859 and died Thursday morning June 27 at a hospital in Omaha. Her death was due to a hip injury which occurred some months ago. At the time of her death she was exactly 80 years, 7 months and 29 days old. She grew to womanhood in Pland [sic] and was there united in marriage to Andrew Smedra. In 1880 she came to America with her husband and settled in Momence, Illinois where Mr. Smedra worked with the Railroad. Seven years later they moved to Nebraska and settled on a farm near the Ashton Community. In 1916 they discontinued farming and made their home on Ashton. Her husband preceeded [sic] her in death having died Oct. 27 1934. Two sons also preceeded [sic] her in death. The last five years of her life were spent in Omaha with her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beister. She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. John Seabeck of Omaha, Mrs. Frank Beister of Omaha and Mrs. Ignac Siwinski of Shelton; Five sons, Frank Stanley and Paul Smedra of Ashton, and Ted Smedra of Loup iCty [sic], and Joe Smedra of Arcadia; one brother Mr. Joe Jehorek of Ashton, thirty-five grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Burial was made in the St. Francis cemetery at Ashton. Pallbearers were the grandsons of the deceased namely Ernest, Dominic, Eugene, Conrad and Louie Smedra n [sic] Adrian Siwinski. Sherman County Times, 3 July 1940, p. 3 c. 2: Among the relatives who attended the funeral services for Mrs. Andrew Smedra from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beister; Mr. John Beister; Mrs. Mary Mitara; Mr. and Mrs. John Seabeck all of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Ignac Siwinski of Shelton; Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Kalkowski and daughters of Kearney; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Smedra and family of Loup City; Mr. and Mrs. Jac [sic] Smedra also of Loup City; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson of Bridgeport, Nebraska.
