Agnes Essman was born on the family farm in Madison Township, Butler County, Iowa on December 8, 1934, the oldest child of Roy Arend and Kathryn Early Essman. She married Jack D. Read More	Daughter of Roy Arend & Kathryn Early Essman Agnes Marie Brody, 74, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2009 at The Life Center in Des Moines with family by her side. Agnes Essman was born on the family farm in Madison Township, Butler County, Iowa on December 8, 1934, the oldest child of Roy Arend and Kathryn Early Essman. She married Jack D. Brody on October 19, 1957 in Ackley, Iowa. He died on December 14, 1994. She graduated from Allen Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Waterloo in 1955 and did post-graduate work in New Jersey in 1956.Her first job was at Allen Memorial Hospital where she worked until her children were born. She later returned to nursing and became the office nurse for Dr. Andrew Smith and finally Dr. Michael Deters at Internal Medicine Associates and Iowa Health. She saw both doctors through retirement. She was a nurse for over 50 years, retiring in September 2008. She was very active at Central Christian Church, holding several leadership roles, teaching Sunday School, and serving as their parish nurse. She embraced helping others every day, both with her patients, and especially her extended family when they needed care. She was active in the Relay for Life Luminaries, the Cedar Valley Crop Walk, and Daughters of the Union Veterans. She had been a 12-year cancer survivor and prior to her illness, had completed the Cedar Valley hospice volunteertraining program in October 2008. Agnes is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Brent) Neuberger of West Des Moines; Dr. Jeffrey (Cecile) Brody of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and Dr. Jill (Bill Lambert) Brody of Macomb, Illinois; nine granddaughters, Morgan (Justin) Stork of Ames; Kendall Neuberger of West Des Moines; Jordan, Kathryn, Megan, Rachel, and Sarah Brody, all of Winston Salem, North Carolina; and Zoe and Mia Lambert of Macomb, Illinois; and one grandson, Tanner Neuberger of Odessa, Texas. She is also survived by one sister, Marlys (Lyle) Davenport of Boise, Idaho; along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Vernon Essman; and one nephew, Martin Davenport.
