Read More	Agnes (Thompson) Galbraith – June 13, 1826 – December 29, 1916 OBITUARY Agnes Thompson was born at Kilwinning, Aryshire, Scotland, June 13, 1826, and died at her home in Scott Township, Friday morning, December 29, 1916, at the age of 90 years, 6 months, and 16 days. At the age of twenty three she was united in marriage to William Galbraith at Belth, Scotland, January 25, 1850. On April 2, 1850, they came to America and settled near Portage City, Wisconsin, where they lived for eleven years. In the year 1861 they came to Iowa. Shortly afterwards they located on a farm west of Marble Rock in Floyd county, where they lived continuously until the time of her husband's death. She was the mother of twelve children, nine sons and three daughters, of whom six survive, also two step-children, as follows: Janet Galbraith, of Dickins, Iowa; David Galbraith, of Northfield, Minnesota; James Galbraith of Marble Rock, Iowa; Andrew Galbraith, of Dickins, Iowa; Robert Galbraith, of New Plymouth, Idaho; Samuel Galbraith, of Larrabee, Iowa; Hugh Galbraith, of Provo, South Dakota; and Agnes Dunning, of Marble Rock. Grandma had eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren by whom she will be greatly missed. She was united with the Scotch Presbyterian Church at the age of 17 years and held to the faith through all her years. Since her husband's death she has made her home among her children, spending the last two years of her life at the "Old Home" where she was cared for by her children and grandchildren. On November 17, 1915, she was stricken with paralysis. Since then her health had failed rapidly. She was a loving, faithful mother. Her home and her children being her first thought and the many kind and neighborly acts she did during her life made her many friends in this vicinity. The funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dunning, Tuesday, January 2, 1917, conducted by Rev. L. W. Inman. The body was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery at Rockford.
