Suhr, that their mother had died at the home of her son, Rudolph, at Leigh, where she went a week ago Saturday for a visit. SUHR DIES The sad intelligence was received in Hooper Friday evening by the children of Mrs. H. G. Suhr, that their mother had died at the home of her son, Rudolph, at Leigh, where she went a week ago Saturday for a visit. The patient was ill for only two days, and thus her death came as a great shock and surprise to many relatives and friends. The cause of death was given as strangulated hernia. Mrs. Suhr was one of the pioneer residents of this community, having come here with her husband, who died five years ago, in 1884. Until a few years ago they made their home on a farm north of Hooper. Ahlke Suhr, nee Pieper, was born at Holie wuesting , Oldenburg, Germany, July 28, 1847, and died at 8 p. m. Friday evening, May 31, 1918. She married in Germany to Mr. Suhr on November 18, 1871. They emigrated to America in 1884. She was the mother of twelve children, ten of whom survive to mourn the death of a loving, and dearly loved mother. They are: J. H. D. and Emil H. Suhr, and Mesdames Gerhard Havekost, John Havekost, Hohn Hilbers, George Hilbers and Diedrich Popkin, all of Hooper: Mrs. Herman G. Heyne, Pender; Herman G. Suhr, Laurel; R. W. Suhr, Leigh as well as 48 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The body was brought to Hooper Monday and the funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Zion Lutheran church, Rev. Schrader preaching, and then at the St. Paul Lutheran church north of Hooper, the pastor, Rev. A. Ollendorf, having charge. Interment was made in the church cemetery. There will be many who will regret the passing of this fine old pioneer lady, who was held in high esteem by old and young alike. The community grieves with the bereaved ones.
