HILBERS DIES AT HOOPER HOME AFTER ILLNESS HOOPER -- Mrs. Martha Hilbers, 58, died Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Blomendahl, on the Hilbers home farm north of Fremont. She had been in failing health since last fall. She had resided on the Hilbers farm 30 years. Mrs. Hilbers was married to John Hilbers in 1900. He died 27 years ago. She was a charter member of St. Paul's church and a charter member of the Ladies' Aid of the church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Laura Wiebach, Orange, Cal.; Mrs. Alma Havekost, West Point, and Mrs. Blomendahl; two sons, Martin, Pilger, and Harvey, Hooper; three brothers, Herman Suhr, Hooper; Rudolph Suhr, Rockport, Ill.; and Emil Suhr, Scribner; and five sisters, Mrs. Bertha Havekost, Anaheim, Cal.; Mrs. John Havekost, Hooper; Mrs. Herman Heyne, Pender; Mrs. Dick Popken, Hooper; and Mrs. George Hilbers, Hooper. Seventeen grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2 o'clock at the St Paul's church, with Rev. H. Welchert officiating. ''''''''''''''''' The Fremont Daily Tribune, July 18, 1938, p. 4, col. 7 & 8 SERVICE IS HELD FOR MRS. HILBERS HOOPER – Funeral services for Mrs. Martha HIlbers were held Saturday. Rev. Hugo Welchert, officiated. He paid a high tribute to Mrs. Hilbers, who was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church. The services were largely attended. Among the many beautiful floral tributes was a spray from the St. Paul's Ladies' Aid of which Mrs. Hilbers was a charter member. The Aid sang "Rock of Ages," and later at the services at the grave a German hymn entitled "Wo Findet die Seele die Heimat, die Ruhe?" A ladies' quartet composed of Mrs. Kroeger, Mrs. Grosc, Mrs. Welchert and Mrs. Wobken sang "Saved by Grace." Mrs. Will Havekost was accompanist. Pallbearers were Dick Busselman, Christ Meyer, Herman Popken, John Schole, Dick Von Seggern and Fred Weitkamp. Burial was made in the church cemetery under the direction of Wollmer and Warne. Among the relatives attending from a distance were Mrs. Herman Heyne of Pender; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Havekost, Mrs. Anna Haschh and Mrs. Henry Hayer, all of Coleridge; Mrs. Arthur Heyne, Thurston; Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Hulsebusch of Pender; Mr. and Mrs. George Scheers, Beemer; Emil Zahno and daughter, West Point; Mrs. Bertha Otteman, Randolph and Mrs. Olga Wurdeman, Carroll. Mrs. Hilbers (Martha Suhr) was born October 14, 1880 at Oldenburg, Germany. At the age of 3 she came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Suhr. She was confirmed April 7, 1895 at the St. Paul's Lutheran church north of Hooper by the pastor, the late Rev. Fred Wupper, D.D. On April 5, Dr. Wupper performed the marriage which united the lives of Miss Suhr and John G. Hilbers. The young couple made their home on a farm northwest of Hooper for seven years then moved to their own farm north of Hooper which has been the home of Mrs. Hilbers for the past 30 years. Mr. Hilbers died November 24, 1911. Mrs. Hilbers had been under the doctor's care since last fall but it was only recently that her condition was deemed serious. She is survived by two sons, Martin Hilbers, of Scribner; Harvey Hilbers of Hooper; three daughters, Mrs. Herbert Blomendahl, Hooper; Mrs. Alma Havekost, West Point and Mrs. Laura Wiebach of Orange, Cal.; three brothers, Rudolph Suhr of Rockford, Ill.; Herman Suhr, Hooper and Emil Suhr, Scribner; and five sisters, Mrs. Bertha Havekost, Anaheim, Cal.; Mrs. Herman Heyne, Pender; Mrs. John Havekost, Hooper; Mrs. Dick Popken, Hooper, and Mrs. George Hilbers, Hooper.
