Description	:	Albert Aerni, 97, of Columbus, Nebraska died Friday, May 19, 2006 at Morys Haven in Columbus. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 23 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Albert Aerni was born December 12, 1908 in rural Platte County Nebraska to Albert and Louise (Mueller) Aerni. He attended rural Platte County Grade Schools and graduated from Columbus High School. Albert was a young man living with his parents and two brothers on a farm northwest of Columbus in the 1920's. The family lost that farm during the depression in 1929. They moved to town and found jobs in Columbus. The family lost nearly everything on a cold winters night on January 27, 1937 when their home burned down in 10' of snow and -25 F. He married Florence Tschauner on June 20, 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus. Albert worked on building the Loup canal system as a drag line operator. During the 1940's, Albert started Aerni Electric. He retired from that in the 1980's. During the 1960's and into the 70's, Albert filmed news coverage for Channel 10 TV. He covered a 50 mile radius of Columbus, filming newsworthy events, and would then flag down cars on the Platte River bridge to carry the film videos to the TV station in Lincoln. Albert enjoyed hunting and photography. He was a member of the Columbus Rifle Club, a life member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the church. His farming interests continued through all his life and he and two brothers purchased and began farming a medium acreage north of Columbus in 1966. Albert enjoyed operating the farm many of the available hours in his retirement.
