The whole community knew that he had had his tongue removed by surgeons at the Nicholas Senn hospital and reports reaching here from time to time were to the effect that he was regaining his powers of speech and taste and was on the road to recovery, but the relapse came suddenly and he was called to meet his Maker. The Methodist church was well filled Tuesday afternoon with many friends of Albert C. Goodin, who gathered there to show their love and respect for the departed, and their sympathy for the young wife, the father and mother and other near relatives who mourn his untimely passing. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. J.S. Ellis, officiating. A mixed quartet, J.T. Hodges, Doris Samuels, Mrs. E.A. Engelke and Robert Williams, furnished the music. The body was interred in the Sidney cemetery. Albert C. Goodin, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Goodin, was born on a farm near Sidney August 3, 1898, and died at the Nicholas Senn hospital in Omaha Sunday morning, February 8, as the result of an operation performed several days before, when his tongue was removed because of a malignant cancer which threatened his life. Albert had spent his entire life here attending the grades and the Sidney high school and later making his home on the farm on which he was born, to which he took his bride, Miss Minnie Tilman, whom he married shortly after her graduation, June 12, 19l8. One little daughter, Vada Arlene, was born to them and survives her father. For two years past he has been in poor health and has sought relief at Excelsior Springs and various other places. His last illness, which resulted in his death, began January 30th, when he taken to the hospital. Besides the young wife and little daughter, Mr. Goodin leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Goodin, his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Goodin, one sister, Mrs. Herbert Barnes, and one brother, Harry. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Howard Tilman of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wankel and Miss Nellie Tilman of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schulthies of Riverton, Mr. and Mrs. Chas Fichter and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fichter of Randolph. Almost impassable roads kept many away.
