The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, February 8, 1923; pg. 1 ========= Albert G. Klawitter, son of Julius and Augusta (Mueller) Klawitter, was born in Nelson, Nebraska, on December 23, 1896. Albert attended school in Nelson until it was necessary that he find work. He enlisted for service in World War I and served for two years. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for the Roby Undertaking Establishment. Later, in 1928 he purchased the business which finally became known as the Klawitter Funeral Home. He was honored by the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association for 62 years of Licensed Funeral Service. On June 4, 1939, Albert was united in marriage to Miss Margaret McMurphy of Wayne, Nebraska. To this union one daughter was born, Sandra Klawitter Sterkel. Albert was a member of the Nelson United Methodist Church, a 50 year Master Mason of Nelson Lodge No. 77 A.F. & A.M., permanent member of Nelson Post No. 187 of the American Legion, member of the Barracks No. 2275 of the Veterans of World War I, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 27. Albert was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Meta; brother, Emil; sisters, Amelia Klawitter, Martha Meyer, and Minnie Troudt. After several hospital stays, Albert entered the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson on February 21, 1985, and died at the Good Samaritan Center on March 8, 1985. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Margaret; daughter, Sandra and her husband Darwin Sterkel; grandson, Doug Sterkel; sister-in-law, Mrs. Stella Klawitter; brother-in-law, John L. McMurphy and wife Doris of Pittsfield, Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 1985, at the United Methodist Church, Nelson, Nebraska, with Rev. Paul Samuelson officiating. "How Great Thou Art" and "Whispering Hope" were sung by James and Alfred Hanson, with Ivan Schafer as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were: LaVern Troudt, Leslie Troudt, Ralph Bottenfield, Pat Moore, Denis Moore, and Dick Hanson. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery, with the flag presentation by the Nelson V.F.W. Post.
