Albert G. Miller was born in Ohio Sept. 22, 1834, and died Lake City Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1902. He was married to Miss Mary Burk [Burks] June the 24, 1858. To them were born eight children, five daughters and three sons. These with his wife and four brothers and two sisters survive him. Mr. Miller was a mason by trade but moving to Iowa in an early day engaged in farming two miles north of this city. A few years ago he moved to his present residence in the Miller block, 4th ward, and has taken much pride in improving and beautifying it. His annual flower garden was one of the most beautiful in the city. He brought profuse boquets to the church. He was at the time of his death a member of the city council from his ward and took much interest in city affairs. He obeyed the gospel under the preaching of J.G. Encell of Marshall Co., Iowa, in the seventies and transferred his membership to the Christian Church at this place. Albert G. Miller enlisted from Marshall Co., Iowa in October 1861 at Keokuk, Iowa as a private in Co. H 13th Iowa Inft. He was placed in the 2d brigade, 3d, 17th Iowa corps. This became a part of the army of Tennessee under Grant. [Battles he participated in were also listed] The funeral services were conducted from Woodlawn Christian Church, Sunday Dec. 7, 1902, where a large company of people were assembled to say their last tributes of respect. The sermon was preached by F.H. Lemon from Isaiah 38:10 to 20. The G.A.R. and W.R.C. (Women's Relief Corps) attended in body and used the soldier's burial ritual. The City Council also were present in a body. Beautiful funeral music was rendered by the choir. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. From abroad to attend the funeral were Sherman Miller of Burlingame, Kansas; Loyd Miller of Sioux City (Iowa); Frank Miller and wife of Tama (Iowa); Wm. Haskin and wife of Fort Scott, Kansas; Scott Wagner [Weidner]and wife of Elgin, Ill.; and Mrs. Phoebe Barnes of Fonda (Iowa); Mrs. Rosa Mackey [Muckey] of New Holland, South Dakota was the only one of the children unable to be present.
