Albert George Heiken was born April 14, 1898 in Castle Grove Township, Jones County, IA, the son of Albert and Maria Behrends Heiken. He received his education in the rural schools near his home. He later started farming with his brothers. George Heiken and Laura Hahn were married Dec. 1, 1926 at SS. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm in Cass township, and farmed there for 40 years. They retired and moved to Monticello in 1968. George was a lifelong member of SS. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church, serving in many of the church offices. George was also a school board director of Cass Township School #2. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Janet Altmann of Sauk Centre, MN; three sons: Wayne Heiken of Des Moines, Roger Heiken of Hiawatha, and Wendell Heiken of Fulton, IL; eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and three sisters. Casket bearers were Max Specht, Junior Hahn, Donald Johnson, Jim Baker, Paul Hugh and John Heiken. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the arrangements.
