Laura Heiken of Monticello died Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at the Monticello Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Laura Katherine Julia Heiken was born Dec. 21, 1905 near Coggon, the daughter of Herman and Catherine Husmann Hahn. She attended school in the Castle Grove area. On Dec. 1,1926, she was united in marriage with George Heiken at SS. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church. The couple farmed and lived in Cass Township for nearly 40 years. They moved to Monticello in 1968. Surviving is a son, Wayne Heiken of Des Moines; a daughter, Janet (Mrs. Bill) Altmann of Spicer, Minn.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband George on Jan. 26, 1990; two sons, Roger and Wendell; one grandchild, Paul Altmann; her twin brother, Lawrence Hahn; a brother, Alva Hahn; a sister, Ida Kidwell; a half-brother, Henry Husmann and a half-sister, Anna Husmann. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
