John Werner and the Rev. Tom Christopher officiating. Interment was made in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton, with Koehn Bros. Funeral Home, Parkston, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Royce Huber, Gaylen Huber, Grant Huber, Russell Werning, Mark Werning, Jim Huber, Todd Huber, Gary Werning, Dale Werning, Wayne Werning and David Werning. Albert Werning was born February 21, 1941, to Albert and Hildegard (Guericke) Werning on the family farm near Clayton. He was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Clayton. He attended Werning Country School and Parkston High School, graduating in 1959. He joined the South Dakota National Guard in 1959 and served until 1972. He was united in marriage to Betty Jean Moege on July 8, 1962. He worked in Rapid City during the Rapid City flood as an equipment operator. He married Linda Plagman on April 25, 1980. He farmed all his life until ill health force him to retire. Even in retirement, he was active on the farm with his son with Werning Custom Harvesting. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church where he served on numerous boards and held various offices. He also served as Director of South Dakota Wheat, Inc. in Pierre and was a former board of director of the Detox Center in Mitchell. In July, he would have celebrated his 30th year of being a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He died Wednesday, June 11, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital, Parkston, at the age of 67 years. He is survived by his wife, Linda, Clayton; four children, Tami Haiar, Mitchell, Albert Douglas Werning and wife, Jean, Emery, Michelle Krueger and husband, Kelly, Spearfish, and Wendy Lacey and husband, Greg, Brandon; nine grandchildren, Megan Kaemingk and husband, Chad, Chase Kurtenbach, Spencer and Zachary Krueger, Emily, Carolyn and Albert James Werning, and Malory and Ethan Lacey; two great-grandchildren, Piper Kurtenbach and Courtney Kaemingk; two brothers, Arthur Werning and wife, Hilda, and Elmer Werning and wife, Marcella; sister-in-law, Alvina Werning; and brother-in-law, Harold Huber. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Werning and Hildegard Werning-Buenning; step-father, John Buenning; sister, Elma Huber; and brother, Marvin Werning. Parkston Advance
