Albert was born April 26, 1911, at Yetter, Iowa, to Ferdinand and Emma (Neier) Carstens. He graduated from Quimby High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Republic as a cook. He married Wilma Coon on May 31, 1936, at Sioux City. He was a Fuller Brush salesman and district manager for the western division of Fuller Brush. He and his wife had lived in Cherokee the past twenty years, prior to this in California and Washington. He served as a volunteer at the Cherokee Villa, Country Estates, Careage Hills and also the Veteran's Home and hospital in Yountville, California. He was a member of the American Legion and the Senior Citizens Happy Hour Club. He and Wilma enjoyed traveling all over the United States in an R.V. He was preceded by his parents, one sister, Bertha Robinson, and three brothers, Pete, Emil and Bill Carstens. Survivors include his wife Wilma of Cherokee, one brother and one sister, Ernest Carstens and his wife Hilda of Quimby, and Ella Droegmiller of Cushing, many nieces and nephews. Burial: 18 November 2004, Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee, Cherokee Co., Iowa
