Mrs. Carstens, a resident of Cherokee County the last 70 years, died Saturday at Country Side Estates, Cherokee, following a short illness. She had been a resident of the nursing home since 1972. Emma Meier was born April 24, 1886, in Stokendorf, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. In 1907, she married Peter Ferdinand Carstens in Germany, and that same year they emigrated to the United States, settling on a farm in Sac County. They moved to Cherokee County in 1917, to a farm south of Quimby. She was a member of the Quimby Garden Club and the Quimby Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Robinson, Cherokee anf Mrs. Ella Droegmiller, Cushing; four sons, Emil Carstens, Washta; Albert Carstens, Cherokee; William Carstens, Albuquerque, N.M. and Ernest Carstens, Quimby; 20 grandchildren; 54 greatgrandchildren and 13 great-greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Peter W. Carstens, and two grandsons, William Carstens Jr. and Joe Carstens. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Services for Mrs. Peter Ferdinand (Emma) Carstens, 99, will be today at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Quimby. The Rev. Marvin Cleair will officiate with burial in the Grandview Cemetery, Quimby. Greenwood Funeral Home of Cherokee is in charge of arrangements.
