Description	:	Funeral rites for Al Burford, Brooklyn barber for 42 years, were held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at Bramer's funeral parlor in charge of the Rev. Paul Figge, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Miss Thursia Manatt was at the organ. Interment was in I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Harley Burch, Sam Werner, John Belland, Howard Patten, J.R. Adamson, and J.E. Talbott. Mr. Burford's death occurred Wednesday evening, March 30 following the evening meal in his home. Only a week previously he had suffered a heart attack and regained his health sufficiently to return to his shop and served his customers the day of his death. Albert Burford was born September 4, 1865 in Barrian county, near St. Joseph, Mich., the son of Samuel and Adelaide Burford. He was 83 years old. Al as he was commonly known, used to work in lumber camps and aboard sailing vessels on Lake Michigan and figured on outdoor work when he came to Iowa sixty years ago. Al started barbering in Malcom 57 years ago and worked at Des Moines, Grinnell and Dysart before coming to Brooklyn. He worked for several years before owning his own shop and 13 years ago he became a partner in a shop. For the past several years he has run the place alone. He married Mary Alma Martin November 12, 1895 at Malcom and three children were born to the couple. He was a member of Corinthian Lodge No. 174 A.P. & A.M. and of the K.P. lodge. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Beryl Miller of Burlington, two grandsons, Gene Green of Chicago, Ill. and Lewis Gould, who recently returned from service in Japan, and two aged uncles in California and Michigan.
