Austin, a citizen of this community for more than fifty years, passed away Friday at the hospital in Falls City, where he had been cared for during the past months. He fell on the street in Sabetha a few months ago breaking his hip and was taken to the hospital. The hip healed nicely, but other complications developed causing death. His wife came from Seattle, Washington when it was learned that his condition was serious and has remained here. The daughter-in-law, Mrs. T. V. Austin and son Lee of North Platte, Nebr. were here for the funeral. Albert Lee Austin was born on the 22nd day of April 1847, in the town of Danville, Wisconsin. He passed away in the hospital in Falls City, Nebraska on Friday the 14th day of October, 1932 at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 22 days. Mr. Austin passed his early life in the state of Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Miss Ellen (Nell) Fisher on the 25th of December, 1863 at Jamesville, Wisconsin. To this union there were born three children: Paul and Tom who preceded him in death, and Mrs. Katherine B. Hopkins of Seattle, Washington, who with her mother, survive to mourn the loss of the husband and father. Twelve years after his marriage, or in the year 1875, the family journeyed to Kansas making their home on a farm two miles south of Sabetha, Kansas. This residence was not changed until seven years ago when he gave up farming and moved into Sabetha. When Mr. Austin was a young man he served, through enlistment, until the close of the Civil War. Those who knew him as their neighbor and friend appreciated very much the spirit of friendship and cooperation. Other than the daughter and her mother, Mr. Austin is survived by a half-sister, Mrs. Carrie Fowle whose home is in California, and two grandsons, Thomas Vernon Austin and Albert Lee Austin of North Platte, Nebr. Also many of the old residents and friends of the Sabetha community. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. O. J. Witherspoon. A mixed quartet from the Congregational choir, Mrs. G. I. Althouse, Mrs. W. B. Palmer, Mrs. E. A. McCoy and Wilbur Wurzbacher, sang appropriate songs. The pallbearers were masons, A. F. Roberts, T. J. Meiser, C. B. Haines, Boyd Cohen, Charles Ott and Will Johnson. Burial was made in the Sabetha cemetery, the masonic burial service being conducted by Elmer Brown. The Reinhart Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
