Married June 17, 1862. --------- Fairfield Ledger June 11, 1890 Death of Albert R. JORDAN Albert R. JORDAN, who had been a prominent business man of Fairfield for nearly a third of a century and a member of the old and widely known firm of JORDAN Brothers, died in this city shortly after midnight of Thursday. He had been in failing health for two or three years past, and his final illness was of about nine weeks' duration. He died of cancer of the stomach. Mr. JORDAN was born at Cape Elizabeth, Maine, in November, 1836. He was one of ten children, the only survivor of whom is A. Scott JORDAN of this city. Deceased was the second of the four brothers composing the firm with which he was so long connected to come to Fairfield, in 1853, but at that time he remained little more than a year. He returned in 1857 and has since made his home here and been continuously identified with the business interests of the city and county. He was married in Fairfield in 1862 to Miss Harriet WELLS, who survives him. To them nine children were born, five of whom are now living, all in this city. As Mr. JORDAN was one of the oldest business men of the city, so had he been closely identified with all her varied interest and with every measure which looked toward her advancement and prosperity. With an acquaintance extending into every neighborhood of the county, his friends were numbered by the hundred, and it is rarely that a loss by death is so generally felt throughout a community as in his case. That this is true ample proof was given by the large assembiage of old friends and neighbors which gathered to pay a last tribute to his memory. In whatever relation of life you found him. Albert JORDAN was an excellent man. His honesty was unimpeachable, his virues many. Of kindly manner and pleasant address he won friends and retained them, and his memory will long be cherished in the community in whose affairs he so long bore a prominent part. The funeral occurred Sabbath afternoon. Services were conducted by Rev. H.L. Marsh, pastor of the Congregational church, with which denomination deceased had long been identified, assisted by Rev. J.F. Magill. The remains were interred in the Evergreen cemetery, whither they were borne by Messrs. C.C. RISK, Henry HANSON, Guy BEATTY, John DAVIES, S.K. WEST and Wm. HUFSTEDLER, old time friends and business associates.
