Description	:	GLASGOW - Albert Schartner, 88, of Glasgow, a decorated World War II Army veteran and retired postal service employee, died of natural causes Sunday at a Glasgow care facility. His funeral was Wednesday at Evangelical Church in Glasgow, with interment in Lustre Bethel Mennonite Cemetery in Lustre. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements. He is survived by many friends. Albert was born June 26, 1920, at Lustre, Mont., to Henry and Margaret (Tieszen) Schartner. Albert grew up on the farm in Lustre with his parents and his sister Delcie. Albert attended the Center Bell School, Lustre Bible School, and he graduated from the Frazer High School as valedictorian. Albert was an active member of the Lustre Bethel Mennonite Church. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a young age. Albert served in the Army, 125th Armored Engineer Battalion, as Company clerk. He was inducted in the service on March 27th, 1942. He was discharged from the service on Nov. 16, 1945. He received a bronze star for meritorious service in France and Germany. After discharge from the service he was employed at the Personnel Reception Center, Fort Douglas, Utah. He farmed in the Lustre area. In 1950 his mother died and Albert, Delcie and their father moved to Glasgow. Albert was employed as paymaster in the construction of the second powerhouse at Fort Peck, Montana. He was also employed at the Glasgow Post Office as the window clerk. After retirement he had several jobs which he enjoyed. Albert and Delcie attended the Evangelical church and were members of the Lustre Mennonite church. Delcie was very caring and they both loved each other very much. Albert loved to garden, enjoyed yard work and spending time with Tibby, his dog. Albert's neighbors were his special family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Delcie. He died peacefully on April 19, in faith to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord Jesus Christ.
