Read More	DEATH SUMMONS ESTEEMED AKRON CITIZEN FRIDAY Heart Attack Proves Fatal to Albert Von Hagel, Sr., While at Work The community was shocked and grieved by the tragic death of Albert Von Hagel, Sr., an old and respected resident, Friday afternoon, June 12, 1936. He had been working as usual after dinner on his farmstead across the bridge in Dakota. When he did not come home for his customary lunch at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, his family became uneasy about him, as he had not been feeling very well for a week or more, and finally his daughter, Anna, went over to the buildings across the bridge and found her father lying under a hayrack with a coat drawn over him, as if he had laid down to rest and had fallen asleep. When she was unable to arouse him, she became alarmed and summoned help, and it was found that he had passed from this life. A physician was called and stated that he had passed away about two hours before. The end came peacefully and was due to a heart attack. Mr. Von Hagel had not been in good health since he fell from a ladder while trimming a tree eleven years ago, suffering a broken arm and a fractured vertebra in his back, which continually bothered him. He attained the age of 73 years, 9 months and 28 days. Albert Von Hagel was born in Etzel, Germany, August 15, 1862, where he was also baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church. In 1881 he came to the United States, his first place of residence being in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. On August 15, 1888, he was joined in holy wedlock with Miss Wiemke Lena Fiebing. This union was blessed with five sons and four daughters. Two daughters and one son preceded him in death. In the spring of 1891, Mr. Von Hagel and family moved from Grant township t a farm in Union County, S.D., a few miles northwest of Akron. In 1899 they moved to Akron and Mr. Von Hagel went into the farm implement business here, which he conducted for a number of years. The past several years he has been farming a tract of land across the river in Dakota and continuing to live in town. Mr. Von Hagel was typical of that solid German stock that pioneered so well in this section in the early days of its development. A man of integrity and of unusual habits of industry, he was always busy at some task, and never happier than when at work. A kind and devoted husband and father and a good neighbor, he will be greatly missed in the community in which he had resided for so many years. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Gert., Albert, John and George Von Hagel; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Hitzeman and Miss Anna Von Hagel, all of Akron; one sister, Mrs. Alber Doering, of Le Mars; 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The relatives, so suddenly bereaved, have the sympathy of the entire community. Funeral Services held Monday afternoon, at 1:45 from the home and at 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran church were attended by a large number of relatives and friends. The pastor Rev. Fred A. Meske, conducted the service. Hymns were sung by the choir. The pallbearers were Gottlieb Kirstein, August Hitzemann, August Meske, Victor Anderson, Frank Grabarske and Ralph Brown.
