Ford and Sons Inc., of Georgetown died early Monday, August 26, at his residence here. He had been in ill health for nine years. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Ford was born at Georgetown March 4 1893, a son of the late Charles L. Ford and the late Mrs. Loula Wiggins Ford. He was educated in local school and attended Porter Military Academy and Clemson College. During World War I Mr. Ford served in the Navy. He returned to Georgetown to be associated with the family business. In 1936, following the death of his father he became president of the firm and continued in that capacity until his death. Active in civic and welfare work Mr. Ford was a charter member and a past commander of the Georgetown American Legion Post. It was during his tenure of office that the post sponsored the raising of funds which resulted in the building of the Georgetown Memorial Hospital. He was also a charter member of the Georgetown Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and of the Georgetown Rotary Club. He gave of his means to organized charity and expanded his efforts in charity to numerous individuals, both with and negro, of the community. He was a member of Duncan Memorial Methodist Church. Mr. Ford was twice married his first wife the former Miss Emily Brockington having died a number of years ago. Surviving are his widow the former Miss Marion Sutcliffe; two sons Albert W. Ford Jr., and Francis B. Ford, both of Georgetown; and a daughter Mrs. William C. Lightsey of Georgetown; nine grandchildren and four sisters Mrs. Jessie Ford Phillips, Mrs. Ida Ford Bell, Mrs. Cleo Ford Kaminski and Miss Elizabeth Ford all of Georgetown. A brother Ralph W Ford died in 1956.
