Alberta Mae Hanson was born December 16, 1898 at Old Kiron to Albert and Mary Down Hanson and died at a Sioux City hospital Tuesday, August 20. She moved from Kiron to Odebolt in March 1904, and attended the Odebolt schools, graduating in 1916. She furthered her education at Morningside College graduating in 1920. September 9, 1920 she married Guy V. Babcock also of Odebolt, and September 6, 1970 they were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Their early married life was spent on a farm near Odebolt, moving to a farm north-east of Galva in March 1924. In March of 1952 they retired to Galva to make their home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Rebekah Lodge No. 565, having been a member of this organization for 43 years. Ten children were born to them. Survivors are Howard of Northglenn, Colo., Bonnie Pyle of Windsor, Colo., Shirley, Mrs. Russell Pepper, and Donna, Mrs. Kenneth Whalen of Storm Lake, Vera Jean, Mrs. Robert Meyer of West Des Moines, Lovice, Mrs. Bud Peterson, and Lloyd both of Galva, and Eugene of Ames; 31 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband in December 1970; a daughter, Dorothy Boock in 1951; and Charles Vernon who died in infancy.
