I've now found birth and marriage records of his children that state their father's name was Alden--or Aldon-- Leroy Clark. So here's what I've pieced together: Alden/Aldon Leroy Clark went by the names Roy and Leroy. In 1892, age 19-1/2, Leroy enlisted in the Iowa 1st Cavalry, U.S. Army. He was 5'3" tall, blue eyes, light brown hair, fair complexion. He was discharged 20 February 1895. On 4 August 1898, he married Mae Electa Wedgwood, daughter of Sanborn Leroy Wedgwood & Clara V. Richards; 6 children. On 1 November 1918, Roy Clark died in the Spanish Influenza pandemic that was sweeping the world. He was buried near his mother Mary A.E. (Bash) Clark at Marshalltown, Iowa, but no tombstone marks his grave. Widow Mae remarried 20 April 1922 to Perry Walter Hall. They divorced and she married between 1933 and 1940 to widower Milton Ray Kellogg; they are together in the 1940 census. And they are buried beside each other in California. Roy & Mae's children: 1. Blanche Vivian Clark 1899-1977 2. Leroy Chester "Chester" Clark 1901-1957 3. Lester Burdette "Burdette" Clark 1902-1970 4. Glenn Benjamin Clark 1904-before 1970 5. Florence Luella Clark 1906-1977 6. Irma Clara Clark 1908-1980; married Mr. Hurt; divorced by 1940 In the 30 April 1910 census of Marshalltown, Iowa, under occupation, Roy says he has his "own income." And he received a nice inheritance--around $15,000--after his wealthy grandfather Henry Bash died in 1900. One-third would have gone to Henry's widow, his third wife Mary. One-third would have gone to Henry's son Lebbeus Bash. And one-third would have been divided between Roy and his older brother Sherman Everett Clark. Roy & his wife Mae & their six children are listed TWICE in the 1910 census! On 15 April in Los Angeles under the name Alden L. Clark, and again two weeks later in Marshalltown, Iowa, under the name A. Leroy Clark--where they are living next door to Mae's parents. The 1900 census of Marshalltown calls him Aldon L. Clark. obit: LeRoy Clark Dies of Pneumonia following Influenza LeRoy died of pneumonia following influenza which he had been suffering for eleven days cause the death at 5 o'clock this morning of A. LeRoy Clark at his home 412 North second St. That is the third death form the epidemic in this city. Mr. Clark was a native of this county, a son of Albert G. and Mary (Bash) Clark, and was born Feb. 28, 1873 near Rhodes. On August 4, 1898 in this city, Mr. Clark was united in marriage with Miss May Wedgwood . Mrs. Clark survives with her six children all of whom are at home. The children are Mrs. Charles Matson whose husband is in the service, Chester, Burdette, Everett, Glen , Florence and Erma. Mr. Clark is survived by a brother B. Everett Clark of Mason City. Mr. Clark's father died May 8, 1913 and his mother Dec. 30, 1900 . Mr. Clark served three years in the regular Army prior to the outbreak of the Spanish & American War. He was a member of the local Odd Fellowes . Private funeral service will be held from the residence Sunday afternoon at 3 O'clock .
