Description	:	Services will be held Friday, May 16 at Lennox Ebenezer Presyberian Church for Aldrich ‘Al' Schoffelman who died May 11, 2008. Officiating during the service will be the Rev. David Young. Pallbearers include Galen Schoffelman, Cory Schoffelman, Paul Straub, Aaron Schoffelman, Mark Straub, and Tate Lantz. Interment will be at the Lennox Cementery. Al Schoffelman was born on the family farm six miles northeast of Lennox on Nov. 29, 1919, the son of Gilbert and Dora (Andreessen) Schoffelman. He received his education at the rural Schoffelman School. At the age of 10, his father was the victim of a threshing accident. With an older brother and sister and two younger siblings, it was necessary to help their mother support the family. Al did the farming for a few years and later also worked as a hired man. For several years he went to Minnesota in the fall to earn money picking com. He would easily pick 100 bushels or more a day. In 1941 Al began working at the John Morrell Company. On Sept. 24, 1942 he married Ruth Heidbrink. In March 1943 he began farming for himself on a farm south of Tea. In the spring of 1963 the family moved onto their own farm southwest of Worthing. Al thoroughly enjoyed his farming years until retiring in 1983. The couple moved into Lennox in 1989 where they built a new home. Al was an active and faithful member of the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church where he had served as Trustee and Deacon. He was a volunteer driver for the Lennox Good Samaritan Center and delivered meals for the homebound. As a young man Al looked forward to playing baseball and hunting whenever he had free time. In later years he enjoyed bowling and played golf several times a week. He was preceded in death by his father Gilbert in August of 1930, his mother Dora in October of 1984, a brother Elmer in June of 1943, and two sisters, Laura Kuper in January of 2007 and Hilda Jelsma in May of 2007. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ruth; two daughters: Donna Schoffelman of Edina, MN and Karol Straub and her husband John of Vienna,VA, and one son, Galen and his wife Mavis of Sioux Falls; four grandsons: Cory (Dana) Schoffelman, Topeka, KS, Aaron Schoffelman, Brookings, Paul (Natalie) Straub, San Francisco and Mark Straub, San Francisco; one granddaughter, Sara (Tate) Lantz, Rapid City; two great-grandsons: Tate Allen and Reed Adam Schoffelman; two great-granddaughters: Ella Rae and Reese Marie Lantz; siblings: John Schoffelman, Tea, Esther Kuper, Lennox and Henry Schoffelman of Chancellor and a host of other relatives and friends.
