Description	:	Sad news spread over our city Friday night reporting the sudden death of Alex Horst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Horst, living two miles West of town. But to make it still sadder, it was learned later that the death was caused by accidental shooting. Just how it happened will never be known. He was in the house with his mother that afternoon and at about four o’clock went out to the granary where he was later found by his mother with a bullet through his head and a rifle by his side.... But to make it still sadder, it was learned later that the death was caused by accidental shooting. Just how it happened will never be known. He was in the house with his mother that afternoon and at about four o’clock went out to the granary where he was later found by his mother with a bullet through his head and a rifle by his side. From all the appearances, it seemed that he must have been trying to clean the gun, not knowing it was loaded when the accident happened. The bullet passed through his head, coming out at the right temple and death must have been instantaneous. He was found lying on his back and from all appearances there was no struggle made between life and death. Undertaker Bast was summoned and he, after arriving, called Justice Corrigan to view the body before it was removed from the scene. “Accidental discharge of a gun in the hands of the deceased caused his death” was the verdict of Justice Corrigan, then the remains were taken into custody by the family and were interred in the Holyrood Cemetery Sunday, Sept. 13, 1908. Rev. Mohri conducted the services. The deceased was born Nov. 26, 1882 in Palacky township, Ellsworth County, Kansas and died Sept. 11, 1908. Alex was an industrious, young man of good habits. He was quiet and made friends with all he met. He leaves parents, two brothers and one sister to mourn his loss. The Banner extends the deepest sympathy to the bereaved in their hour of sorrow.
