Humboldt Times, Volume XLV, Number 188, 1 August 1908 ALEX FORBES IS DEAD Mrs. Alex Forbes of Elk river received a telegram from San Diego, Thursday evening, sent by her stepson, Fred Forbes, announcing that Mr. Alex Forbes had died in that city a few hours previous. Mr. Forbes had been in poor health for some time and about six weeks ago went to San Diego in hopes for relief. No alarming reports had been received and the sudden news of his death was something of a shock to his family here. Mr. Forbes was born in Scotland seventy years ago, coming to America when ten years old and living in Toronto, Canada, until a man grown. He came to Humboldt forty-four years ago and for thirty-six years has lived on his farm at Elk river. He was married three times and leaves a wife and six children. Of these children Arthur is in Alaska, Elizabeth in Fortuna, Robert and Clare in Eureka, and Stewart in Washington. Fred, who was called from Washington to his father's bedside, is bringing the body home and is expected to arrive on Monday's steamer. Humboldt Times, Volume XLV, Number 193, 7 August 1908 FORBES —At Ramona, San Diego Co., Cal., July 29, Alexander, beloved husband of Jennie Forbes and father of Arthur, Lizzie, Robert, Fred, Charlie and Stuart Forbes, a native of Scotland, aged 70 years. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, Friday, August 7, at 2 o clock p. m., from his late residence. Elk River. Interment Myrtle Grove cemetery.
