MacIver, 84, of Gibbs Avenue, Chairman of the Miantonomi Park Memorial Commission and credited with a leading role in the acquisition of that park by the city in 1919, died Friday night in a Providence hospital. A buyer of the Boston Store over 60 years, he was a familiar figure in both the old and new, retiring only last year. He was originally appointed to the Miantonomi Park Commission 30 years ago and had held office since that time. He worked unceasingly in many way and for many years in activities with the park commission and the Newport Discussion Club, and had the best interests of Newport at heart, all the time. His short poems, many of which were printed in the Daily News, always had a worthwhile point to make, frequently appearing in print under his nom de plume of "Revicam" which was his name spelled backwards. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, being its oldest elder in point of years at the time of his death. He was superintendent of the church's Sunday school for over 30 years. He was prominent in Masonic circles, being a 32nd degree Mason, a member of St. Paul's Lodge, DeBlois Council Royal and Select Masters, Van Renselaer Lodge of Perfection and Washington Commandery Knights Templar. A member of the St. Andrew's Society, and for many years he took part in Mary Street Y.M.C.A. activities. Mr. MacIver was born in Stornoway, Scotland, in 1867, a son of the late Donald and Catherine MacLean MacIver. He came to this country in 1888. His first wife Grace Arnold (Barker) MacIver died in 1907. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Melville MacIver, a son Dr. Alister I. MacIver of Jamestown; a grandson; John A. MacIver of Providence; and a brother and sister in New Zealand, Donald MacIver and Mrs. A.R. Ferguson.
