Description	:	A. P. Nichols Alexander Patterson Nichols, son of Danel [sic] and Ellen Nichols, immigrants from Nova Scotia, was born July 13, 1876 in Adams County seven miles north of Corning, Iowa and departed this life December 17, 1951, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 4 days. On Dec. 19, 1899, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Florence Reed by Rev. A. Y. Cupp at the home of her mother in Mt. Etna and brought his bride to the farm of his birth where they lived until December 1920... Read More	A. P. Nichols Alexander Patterson Nichols, son of Danel [sic] and Ellen Nichols, immigrants from Nova Scotia, was born July 13, 1876 in Adams County seven miles north of Corning, Iowa and departed this life December 17, 1951, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 4 days. On Dec. 19, 1899, he was united in marriage to Myrtle Florence Reed by Rev. A. Y. Cupp at the home of her mother in Mt. Etna and brought his bride to the farm of his birth where they lived until December 1920 when the family moved to Corning. He continued his active working years in the trucking business until his retirement in 1946 at the age of 70 years. At an early age he became a member of the Baptist church and was ever willing to serve when and where needed as a member of committees, treasurer, clerk, trustee, or deacon. As a personal satisfaction to him, the probable crowning achievement to his christian work was the period when he served as chairman of the building committee when his church family acquired the present property for the church home of their growing membership. For many years he represented Creston Association as its member on the Board of the Iowa Baptist Convention. A. P. or Alex, as he was known to many friends, gladly assumed his share of civic and community responsibilities in service as township assessor and director at his school district while living on the farm and later as a member of Corning's Board of Education, City Assessor, Councilman and Mayor. To Alexander and Myrtle were born nine children, three of whom preceded their father in death. Margaret Mae, Clarence Arlington, Marjorie Marie. He is survived by his wife, a sister, Mrs. Paulina L?ng of Vancouver, Washington; two daughters, Mrs. G. A. Robison, of Ames; and Ruth at home; four sons, Daniel A. of Muscatine; Fletcher H. of Des Moines; Lester E. of Minneapolis, Minn. and Merrill H. of Oakland, Calif. and eight grandchildren. All of the children were present but Merrill, now in the Naval hospital in Oakland, Calif. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 20, 1951 in the Lines Funeral home, Corning, Iowa, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. B. D. Bradbury. Pall bearers were Harold Farris, Harold Dotson, Wm. Wheatley, Carl West, Dean Driskill, James Barker, with interment in Adams Co. First Baptist Church cemetery near Mt. Etna. Music by Mrs. Leod? Harrison, accompanied by Mrs. John Champ. Those attending services from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Nichols and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nichols of Atlantic, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gebble, Grant, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Q. S. Fisher, Ong, Nebr., Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Fisher, Orient, Iowa; C. L. Reed, Clarinda, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wagner, Ames, Iowa.
