Description	:	Alexander Quincy Matthews was the son of Samuel and Mary Green Matthews. He came to Osage County, Missouri about 1845 from Marion County, Tennessee, with his mother, Mary Matthews and families of her married children. Alexander Q. Read More	Alexander Quincy Matthews was the son of Samuel and Mary Green Matthews. He came to Osage County, Missouri about 1845 from Marion County, Tennessee, with his mother, Mary Matthews and families of her married children. Alexander Q. Matthews was in Mint Hill, Osage County, Missouri before 1848. He married Beditha D. Boyse on February 10, 1848, Osage County, Missouri. She born in Tennessee on May 29, 1828, daughter of John Arthur and Mary (Scrimpture) Boyse. He brought his bride to a farm near Mint Hill, Missouri. Alexander was a (Primitive) Baptist Minister or sometimes called, "Hard Shell Baptist". He and his family lived near the Old Church and its cemetery. He lived a busy and active life, but it was cut short when he died July 29, 1859, at the age of 35 years (maybe a stroke). He was buried in the Harris Cemetery near his home. He is believed to be the first resident Baptist minister in the County or one of the first. On his headstone it reads, "Hope" "Father of J.F. Matthews, Mrs. L. Pummill, C.L. Matthews, Mrs. S.A. Starr, S.J.W. Matthews, G.D. Matthews." Father "I have preached righteousness in the great congregation. Lo, I have not refrained my lips O Lord, thou knowest. Ps. 40:9.
